Tax Information For Our Area

The State of North Carolina requires real property be reappraised at least every eight years. Property values change over time and must be adjusted periodically to maintain balance and equity.

Please note: Sometimes an address might seem odd, for instance, a Chapel Hill address in Chatham County. What it means is the post office is in the city of the 'address' but the schools and services are provided by the county where the property is physically located.

Chapel Hill and Orange County Tax Rates

Every four years properties in Chapel Hill are reassessed and the value adjusted to market. The tax rate for Chapel Hill and Orange County changes just about every year. Every year the rate is adjusted according to the budget needs.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro School District in Orange County also collects a district tax which supplements funds from the county and state. It is billed and collected at the same time as other county and town property taxes.
